Highlights Day 2 Mauritius 7’s

Uganda emerged victorious in the first leg of the 2024 Africa Men’s 7s tournament by defeating Madagascar 31-12 in the final at Labourdonnais Sports Club.

After the halftime interval, Madagascar responded with a successful try, increasing their score to 12 points. Nevertheless, Okeny broke through the defense and scored a try, extending Uganda’s lead to 24-12.

Uganda aims to maintain their current performance as they strive to qualify for the 2025 World Challenger Series in the upcoming tournament. South Africa clinched the third place with a commanding 35-7 victory, overcoming a cautious first half with a strong 22-point second half.

In the other quarter finals, the Sprinboks Sevens beat the Kenya Morans 12-7 in a tight contest.

Host country Mauritius, cheered by their victory over Nigeria yesterday gave up a very good display of pace and tactics but was beaten eventually beaten by the experienced side of Madagascar.

Burkina Faso had a thrilling tie against the Zimbabwe Cheetahs and it went to a very close call with Burkina Faso teams finally getting the better of the Cheetas by a 24 -21 victory.

Looking forward, all teams are preparing for the next weekend’s matches, 6- 7 July at the Labourdonnais Sport Club which will determine the series’ winner.
